FOR LMS ADMINISTRATORS

Install and troubleshooting guide

How to install a course package in your LMS and what to do when a course does not start.

What you are installing

The file you upload is a small connector package (a zip of a few KB), not the course itself. When a learner opens it, it checks the licence with SCORMBridge and then plays the course from SCORMBridge's servers inside your LMS. Your LMS records progress, completion and scores as it does for any other SCORM course.

Install the course

  1. Download the package from the client portal, or use the one your provider sent you.
  2. In your LMS, add a new course or activity of the type SCORM package (for xAPI packages: xAPI or Tin Can).
  3. Upload the zip as it is. Do not unzip it. Most LMSs read the SCORM version (1.2 or 2004) from the package. If yours asks, choose the version shown next to the course in the client portal.
  4. Open the course once, as any user, to check that it plays.

Launch settings

  • The course works both embedded in the LMS page and in a new window. If you choose a new window, allow pop-ups for your LMS site.
  • Give the course enough room: a full-width frame or a new window works best.
  • Leave the LMS's own tracking settings at their defaults. Completion and scores come from the course.

Network and allow-lists

Learners' browsers load the course directly from SCORMBridge. If your organisation filters web traffic, allow these addresses (HTTPS, port 443):

  • scormbridge.app
  • content.scormbridge.app

Some licences only work on listed websites. In that case your provider needs the address your LMS plays courses from. This is not always the address of its sign-in page: many LMSs serve course files from a separate content address.

Results and updates

  • Completion, pass or fail, score, time spent, bookmarks and question answers go to your LMS's normal reports and gradebook.
  • When your provider publishes a new version of the course, learners get it at their next launch. You do not need to upload anything again.
  • Only replace the package if your provider asks you to (for example, after it was withdrawn).

Messages learners may see

If a course cannot start, learners see one of these messages instead. Learners may see them in another language, depending on the course settings.

“Licence not valid: This licence has expired. Contact your administrator.”
What it means: The licence for this course has passed its end date.
What to do: Ask your provider to renew it. Nothing changes in the LMS.
“Licence not valid: This licence is not active yet. Contact your administrator.”
What it means: The licence has a start date in the future.
What to do: Wait until the start date, or ask your provider to move it.
“Licence not valid: This licence is not active. Contact your administrator.”
What it means: The licence is suspended or not yet activated (for example, awaiting payment).
What to do: Contact your provider.
“Licence not valid: This licence has reached its launch limit.”
What it means: The licence allows a fixed number of launches, and all of them are used. Resuming the course counts as a launch.
What to do: Ask your provider to raise the limit.
“Licence not valid: This licence has reached its seat limit.”
What it means: The licence allows a fixed number of learners, and all seats are taken. Learners who already started keep their seat.
What to do: Ask your provider for more seats.
“Licence not valid: This course is not licensed for this site.”
What it means: The licence only works on listed websites, and the address the course was opened from is not one of them.
What to do: Send your provider the address shown in the browser when the course opens. Your LMS may play courses from a different address than its sign-in page.
“Licence not valid: This install package has been revoked. Ask your administrator for a fresh one.”
What it means: This copy of the package was withdrawn.
What to do: Download a fresh package from the client portal, or ask your provider for one, and replace the course file in the LMS.
“Licence not valid: This course is not available. Contact your administrator.”
What it means: The licence could not be matched, or the course has no published version.
What to do: Contact your provider.
“Licence check failed: Could not reach SCORMBridge. Check your connection and relaunch the course.”
What it means: The learner's browser could not reach our servers.
What to do: Check the allow-list below, then relaunch.
“Please try again in a moment: SCORMBridge is busy right now. Close this window and relaunch the course in a minute.”
What it means: Many launches arrived from the same network at once.
What to do: Relaunch after a minute. It clears by itself.
“Temporarily unavailable: SCORMBridge is temporarily unavailable. Please try again in a few minutes.”
What it means: A temporary problem on our side.
What to do: Relaunch in a few minutes. If it persists, contact your provider.

A banner saying “Preview mode — no SCORM tracking (launcher is not inside an LMS)” means the package was opened outside an LMS, for example straight from your computer. The course plays but nothing is recorded. Upload it to the LMS instead.
